« Along
with my students, we gave a dance performance in one of the parishes, to
support them to help the wars victims in Syria. Despite their ailments both the
brothers were present for the programme which lasted more than an hour. Once it
was my great joy to prepare an Indian meal for them. I remember they relishing
it with eyes closed. It seemed to me that it transported them to India and to
those memorable years in this country », are the grateful words of Sr.Eliza
SCC.
Their
last trip was during the month of May, an audience with Pope Francis, to submit
a canonical petition, to initiate the cause of canonisation of an African boy
Robert Naoussi, who died due to leprosy. On the day of their audience with
Pope, Pierre went into coma. Raymond was alone to meet Pope Francis. He had the
great joy of meeting Pope and hugging him with warmth – a trait typical of
Raymond, whose heart overwhelms with genuine affection, mingled with a
child-like wonder. It was a miracle that Pierre woke up from coma on the day of
Pentecost when Pope Francis was saying Mass.
Recently
they celebrated their 65 and 60 years of priestly life. Pierre, the eldest
couldn’t be part of this event as his health condition didn’t permit him. It
was a day-long celebration with Holy Mass, shared meals and culturals.
Pierre,
due to his health condition has opted for a cloistered life. His choice leaves
us in pain but he is blissful, spending more time in prayer, celebrating daily
Mass with his brother and in communion with his favourite-passionate saint
Therese of the Child Jesus and with Mother Mary, whom he fondly addresses as
« Mother-darling ».
These
simple beautiful brothers show us that holiness lies in the ordinariness of
life, where serving the humanity with deep love and joy brings God on earth.
